Rep. Culver at the taxpayer-funded
Anniversary Tea Party (image via Facebook)
Schlegel-Culver, who collects an annual salary of $82,026, charged taxpayers more than $300 for the party. Receipts obtained by Keystone IMC through a Right-to-Know law request show that taxpayers paid $108 to Community Services Group of Mountville for cakes and $195 to Townside Garden Cafe. Schegel-Culver's office did not release any associated costs for the time spent by staff to organize the event.
When Shlegel-Culver ran for election in 2010 she told The Daily Item, "I will continually look for ways to cut costs in my office and in the overall operation of the House of Representatives. "
Under current House Rules (see HR 1 Rule 14.6) members are allowed to charge the taxpayers for "(c)ommunications and donations in extending congratulations."
